Creating My Doc

After watching all these docs my group and I were SO EXCITED to create our own. We had so many ideas but eventually landed on creating something about the arts.... but obviously, that is a little broad.

We knew we wanted to focus on students as we know SO many young people doing amazing things like making award-winning films, producing their own music and so much more.

After a lot, and I mean A LOT of talking, we found our idea. So we decided to highlight why the arts are so important in our society but through the eyes of students and their goals and influences. Basically, they talked about their personal goals, and how they wanted to influence others both younger and older.

Next step: finding our subjects. We each chose someone we knew in a different field. I found Miguel Cabrera who does musical theatre and is a choreographer. Tailyn found Santigo Salazar, who is a young filmmaker we know and compete with and who has won a ton of awards. And Male found Monica Torres, a singer/songwriter and musician.

With our three people set we began planning focuses, questions, and b-roll shots. We also knew we wanted each person to have a unique style, both for the stylistic look and because it would reflect each of their personalities. This is our planning document
, for miguels part, that I worked on.

For Miguel, I wanted it to have a very main stage, spotlight stage look, seeing as he does theatre. With this in mind, I planned days to film b roll of his rehearsal and a class he teaches, as well as a separate day for his interview. Unfortunately, he got busy and we ended up only being able to film one day, so we had to do the interview on the same day as one of the b-roll days but I was still hopeful.

We basically did this for each of our people and planned a date and then, we were all set to film!!
